Community-centered health education

Lumbee Health Literacy Initiative

A community-centered effort to strengthen health understanding, build trust, and connect Lumbee families with clear, practical resources for prevention, screening, care navigation, and whole-person well-being.

About the Initiative

Making health information easier to understand, use, and share.

Why this matters

Health literacy is more than reading a brochure. It means having information that is clear, respectful, culturally relevant, and connected to real-life decisions. Through this initiative, NMQF is working to support Lumbee communities in Lumberton and surrounding areas with practical education, local resources, and trusted pathways to care.

  • Plain-language education on prevention, screening, early detection, and care access.
  • Community-informed outreach that respects local voices, culture, and lived experience.
  • Connections to public resources, local services, community events, and follow-up information.
