 Newborn RSV access

# Every Child Leaves Protected.

Every eligible family should have access to newborn RSV protection before leaving the hospital. Every Child Leaves Protected works to address the hospital, reimbursement, policy, and implementation barriers that can stand between families and timely RSV protection.

 From recommendation to access

## Closing the gaps between protection being recommended and protection being delivered.

 1

**Hospital readiness** Make RSV immunization easier to operationalize before newborn discharge.

 2

**Sustainable reimbursement** Strengthen clear payment pathways across public and commercial coverage.

 3

**Coordinated access** Connect hospitals, clinicians, payers, public health programs, and communities.

 The access problem

## Protection exists. Access is still inconsistent.

RSV prevention has advanced rapidly, but educational, operational, financial, and care-coordination barriers continue to create missed opportunities for newborn protection.

 65.1% **Infant RSV protection**

CDC survey data cited in the September 2026 white paper estimated 65.1% protection during the 2025–26 season through maternal vaccination or infant mAb.

36% **Birthing hospitals enrolled in VFC**

The white paper reports that only about one-third of birthing hospitals participate in the Vaccines for Children program.

 31.8–53.9% **Variation across jurisdictions**

Reported infant RSV mAb coverage varied considerably across the 14 IIS jurisdictions included in CDC data cited in 2026.

### Awareness

Families and clinicians may not always receive timely, consistent information about RSV protection options, timing, and eligibility.

 $

### Payment

Hospital reimbursement and bundled newborn payment structures can make infant RSV immunization difficult to sustain.

 \+

### Implementation

Workflow, inventory, VFC participation, and care coordination affect whether protection can be delivered before discharge.

 ↔

### Follow-up

When hospital administration does not occur, families may encounter additional logistical and coverage barriers in outpatient settings.

 RSV Access Action Reports

## Turn the evidence into usable action.

The report should be more than a PDF download. This website surfaces the major findings and organizes implementation resources around the barriers hospitals, payers, clinicians, public health programs, and families face.

- ✓ Hospital reimbursement and VFC barriers
- ✓ Seasonal and geographic variation in uptake

 Payer & reimbursement

## Payment is an access issue.

Hospitals may face reimbursement uncertainty when RSV immunization is provided during the newborn stay. Clear and sustainable payment pathways can reduce barriers to implementation.
